I love the way a baby laughs...each and every laughter is a great moment to live next to a new born. I really think that us adults, could and should learn a lot from the new comers in life, like...laughing.

Whenever we laugh, we should learn again to simply forget for just 2 minutes whatever sad/ dark though or worry we may have in our mind and live that brief moment of joy. Why? Because we have plenty of worries and reasons to worry in our day to day life, but think about it, how many short moments of real and genuine happiness have you had during the last month?!? 1...maybe 2?

If you can't do it at first, don't give up, just let a baby around you teach you how it's done :) They are great teachers!

I love to get in the car with a couple of friends and drive off to a new or known place. I must admit that driving on a winding road suits me much better than driving on the highway, but sometimes it really doesn't matter.
All that matters is the feeling of driving away with my friends and thinking of nothing else but what that road gives to you: sights and why not, maybe a few curves :)

Last weekend I went hiking with some friends in what should be "Ciucas National Park"...though it rained almost all day on Sunday, and on Monday we left the mountain on a very thick fog, we had a great time...

No matter how calm or temperamental we are, no matter how much we educate ourselves and how much we evolve, from time to time we still have the instinct to go in for the kill...

We do not literary kill, because we have evolved quite a lot, now we use much more subtle methods: we psychically kill each other, we try to get to the mind of the person that is in our way...

If you ask me, it would be much easier if we would all try to leave in peace and accept each-other, but I guess that's just not in our human nature :|

This Saturday I went on a city-break with Vlad. First we went to see some ruins around Bucharest, then we went climbing some rocks near Sinaia; it was a great day, I came back with a fresh mind and my batteries charged.

The monks are very skilled farmers, almost everything they need is grown there.

The sights were amazing...

A Romanian monk we met on one of our journeys on foot there, he spoke few words but sure said a lot...

Prodromu Monastery, one of the largest Romanian sights on the island, in the background you can see Mt. Athos with peek Athon.

Leaving the port, I realized this was a great opportunity to see and experience for a short period a very different life style...As a simple observer of the concepts and mentality the monks practice there, I couldn't help notice the huge gap between us and them, and wondered if the best wouldn't be somewhere in the middle.

Maybe we could learn from them a few things related to our spiritual side and they could learn from us a thing or two about the material world which makes our home.

Road trip to Mt. Athos - part I

As promised, here is the first part of the road trip to Mt. Athos in Greece.

This is Ouranopolis, a small port where we left the cars and took the ferry for the port in the Mountain.

We had a lot of such little stops, where a few people would come on or go off the ferry, as this was the easiest way of access to the Athos.

Seagulls accompanied us all the way.

All old monasteries were build like great fortresses due to the fact that the peninsula was often attacked by armies of other religions or simply by thieves or pirates.

Holy Monastery of Panteleimon - one of the oldest Russian settlements.

The water was crystal clear.

Spring was well-installed everywhere, everything was green and alive.

These were our means of transport as on the Mountain most of the roads are dirt roads and we crossed a lot of rivers to get to our destinations.

The courtyards of the monasteries were extremely well taken-care of, with a lot of flowers and plants...as you entered them, you felt as a certain feeling of peace and serenity takes over.

This is Mount Athos with Peak Athon - 2203 meters high.

Back from the Holy Moutain

I recently got back from the Holy Mountain Athos(center of Eastern Christian Orthodox Monasticism), in Greece. The first thing that hit after getting back home and back to our day to day life was the huge difference between the two worlds - our world and the Mountain. No matter where I went and visited, hiked or climbed I haven't found such a place full of peace and serenity and trust me, I love going to places where not too many been before.

After the first night slept there, I woke up and started to realize that time has an entire different meaning there, there simply are no "deadlines", no hurry-ups or generally no feeling of " I haven't got enough time". You just have plenty of time for you, your thoughts and especially for your soul and its needs.

I'm not saying that I just found the perfect place or that on Athos it's much better than here, but after I realized the huge gap between the two worlds I understood why we, with our cutting edge technologies, out of the box thinking and ingenious strategies, are so far away from true and simple peace and happiness.

I don't know about others but for me, whenever I reach a dead-end situation, at work, at home or anywhere else during the day-to-day life, there are two or three things that can snap me out of the "nothing can be done" state of mind.

One of them is music. Not a certain kind of music - it can be rock, electro, ambiental, jazz or symphonic - but the composition of sounds, the rhythm or the pitch of a certain song.

The man from the photo was playing this song (Gheorghe Zamfir - The Lonely Shepherd) while I was walking on a cold winter night in Brasov...as the music took over control of the mind, the effect was immediate, I had a brand new approach and sight of the dead end thoughts in my mind. It was like magic...a flip of a wand and everything was different...

So, I don't know about others and their magic wands, but for me Music is one of the great simple things in life...which from time to time seems to more than enough to power me further on.

Istanbul in 1 photo Challenge

These last 2 weeks I've been in Turkey on holiday and on the way to our final destination there, we stopped in Istanbul for a night.

A good friend of mine gave me a challenge before I left: come back with 1 picture which I think represents the city best... Well, this is it:

This is no extremely busy place in the city, it's a street like all others and no, there is no riot...

it's the madness you get from so many people in one place. Notice the incredible number

of people, shops, hotels, buildings, vehicles in a rather small place. That is what amazed me in

this city, the numbers of everything and yet the fact that within this chaos (at least at first sight),

there is a certain order and people respect each other and some unwritten rules...

The photo is taken from a sight seeing tour bus ( I only had 2 or 3 hours to visit the entire city so it was the best solution), so I won't pretend it has the quality and composition I wished, but in a way it expresses exactly the general impression you get from the city: you don't have time to prepare for anything, everything just seems to be coming towards you... and not at all in small amounts!

As a conclusion to my short visit to Istanbul, it's one of the greatest cities I've been in, with somewhere around 20 million people in it ( own population + tourists - unofficial data), you can have everything you want from a touristic attraction: a lot of history, a lot of attractions, all the shops you can wish for, a lot of places to have fun - no matter the age, culture and religion you belong to, it simply has it all in one place.

I hope I took up the challenge right, I'll be back with other pictures of the city and main attractions...

Many times even a lady-bug, a symbol of fragility, with it's vulnerable and gentle appearance, seems stronger than any "super-human" around...

we should learn that being fragile or vulnerable, doesn't make us weaker, it just makes us...how and what we are:

30 minutes in Sibiu / Hermanstadt

This week I've been in Sibiu (European Capital of Culture 2007) with some business...during the last night there I had about 1 hour to take a few steps and sit down for a coffee in the center...these are the few photos I took while visiting it.

Though I wasn't exactly a tourist on vacation, I enjoyed it a lot and I really think Sibiu is one of the greatest small towns in Romania, the people there are great too and the food...to good not to come back again.

Mercedes-Benz Museum part I/II

While staying in Stuttgart I had time to visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Now I have to say that I visited quite a lot of museums until the Mercedes one, and I didn't expect too much of it...I mean it isn't exactly an art gallery nor is it a Ferrari Museum to expect to much passion put in it...but I was wrong!

I can say without any doubt that it was one of the most well organised and put together museums I visited...and though it presents the history of a German car maker, a lot of passion and love for cars was spent when making it...and that was easy to see and feel by every step you took in it.

All "galleries" were chronologically organized, thus taking you on a journey through how everything that Mercedes-Benz means today came all together in time.

The world's first small high-speed mono-cylinder internal combustion engine to run on gasoline.

One of the first autonomous automobile with integrated chassis and engine.

I loved the way they mixed important historical events from all over the globe with the appearance of different Mercedes models.

After the First World War Mercedes were among the first to test supercharger technologies in standard series car.

One of the greatest and most beautiful car in their history: 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

I found the city rather interesting and nice...some say that the people weren't exactly welcoming and that this isn't exactly a touristic city. I think they are wrong: with the right company and guidance around the city you could even get to enjoy the rainiest days of all :)

De vreo 3-4 ani, în ultima săptămână din Februarie, ştiu că trebuie să ajung la Târgul Mărţişorului de la Muzeul Ţăranului Român, atât din postura de vizitator dar şi din cea de cumpărător. Asta pentru că un lucru îl ştiu sigur: este locul unde se găsesc cele mai puţine kitschuri când vine vorba despre mărtişoare - fie ele tradiţionale şi specifice fiecărei zone din ţară, fie variante contemporane (am văzut chiar şi variante cu Michael Jackson sau cu influenţe emo). Anul acesta, deşi am ajuns cam pe ultima sută de metri, pe lângă "târguiala" necesară pentru a cumpăra câteva mărţişoare pentru cele dragi, am reuşit să trag câteva poze cu forfota din târg.
Un lucru pot să-l spun sigur: mi s-a părut cea mai reuşită ediţie din ultimii ani, cel puţin din punct de vedere al diversităţii temelor mărţişoarelor dacă nu şi din cel al numărului de expozanţi - care, in ciuda vremii care nu prea a ţinut cu ei, erau toţi cu zâmbetul pe buze, gata să îţi ofere un pic din munca şi creativitatea lor.
Aşa că, încă mai aveţi timp până mâine la ora 18:00 să mergeţi la o gură de aer în curtea Muzeului Ţăranului Român şi să cumpăraţi câteva mărţişoare pentru cele dragi.
Şi nu uitati, de luni vine primăvara, poate o ajutăm şi noi să vină mai repede cu un zâmbet şi o atitudine mai "verde" :)

Drumul cel mai plăcut - fie el un drum la propriu sau poate "drumul" nostru în viaţă - nu este întotdeauna cel mai scurt sau cel mai drept...dacă toate "drumurile" ar fi drepte şi line, ne-am plictisi de moarte...fără un munte de escaladat, fără atâtea serpentine sau pur şi simplu fără nici o provocare, nu ar mai apărea un zâmbet venit din adâncul nostru, ştiind că am trecut cu bine şi de această parte a "drumului" nostru.

Expozitie foto "Trecut-au anii...(II)"

Astazi, la Universitate, in curtea muzeului Municipiului Bucuresti, a avut loc vernisajul expozitiei "Trecut-au anii..." - partea a doua. Mai mult sau mai putin intamplator am participat si eu cu o poza. Ideea de a face o pararela intre Bucurestiul interbelic si Bucurestiul zilelor noastre mi s-a parut destul de buna.
Asa ca zilele astea, pana pe 4 octombrie, daca aveti timp si drum pe acolo, opriti-va cateva minute :)

Expoziţie foto "Cele două lacuri" / Photo exhibit "The two lakes"

Luni, 13 aprilie ora 18:00, în staţia de metrou Dristor 1(magistrala Unirii - Titan), a avut loc vernisajul expoziţiei foto "Cele două lacuri". De ce un post legat de această expoziţie? În primul rând, pentru că vreau să vă recomand ca, dacă aveţi drum pe acolo, să vă opriţi pentru 10-15 minute să aruncaţi o privire pe cele 70 fotografii expuse de "fotografi iubitori ai urbei de pe malul Dâmboviţei"...da, expoziţia este cu poze din Bucureşti, poze făcute pe malul a două lacuri - Lacul Fundeni şi Lacul Morii.

Recomandarea vine datorită faptului că, prin intermediul acestei expoziţii şi a celor care au organizat atât expoziţia cât şi excursiile din jurul celor 2 lacuri, am descoperit că este foarte uşor să critici defectele si dezavantajele oraşului din viteza vieţii de zi cu zi, dar este mult mai greu să încerci să te detaşezi pentru 2-3 momente şi să vezi dincolo de gropi, praf sau aglomeraţie partea frumoasă a acestuia. Cu un pic de bunăvoinţă si voie bună, peisajul se schimbă brusc şi din încruntarea de zi cu zi apare un zâmbet :)
Bine, şi de ce să nu recunosc, poate vă recomand să vizitaţi expoziţia şi datorită faptului că una din pozele pe care o să le găsiţi pe stâlpii de la Dristor 1, este făcută chiar de...MINE :D
A fost o mare surpriză să aflu că la prima mea expoziţie voi participa cu o poză cu Bucureşti... de legile lui Murphy aţi auzit? :))

Monday, April 14th at about 6:00 PM the opening of the photo exhibit "The two lakes" took place in Dristor Underground station...it exposes 70 photos with Bucharest made by 70 photographers on 2 lakes in Bucharest.
What made is so special? Well besides the fact that it helped me discover that the city I was born and raised in - Bucharest, can be a beautifull city. All you have to do is escape for a couple of seconds from the chaotic speed we live in, take a look beyond the dust and rush-hours and you might just get a glance at the real face of the city.
Hmm, I guess it would be fair to say that is so special also because this is the first exhibit at which I personally partipate with a photo as well :D
It was by far one of the greatest surprises to realise that the first photo exhibit I will participate to,will be one about Bucharest :)

Have you ever tried to go back to being a child??? Pretty hard, isn’t it? To go back to having nothing to worry about except for playing, eating and sleeping, to knowing there’s always someone there watching your back...to really thinking there’s nothing more to this life than playing all day long? I think it’s really great once in a while to try this “return to innocence”...and I also think that it’s worth to never forget we all were children and we all can still be I can’t remember who said it, but it sounded like this: “A real adult is the one that does not lose his child’s heart “ .

Aţi încercat vreodată să reveniţi la a fi un simplu copil? Cam greu,nu? Să te întorci la starea de a nu avea nici o grijă în afară de joacă, mâncare şi somn; să ştiţi că întotdeauna este acolo cineva care să aibă grijă de voi...să fiţi convinşi că suntem în viaţă doar ca să ne jucăm tot timpul? Eu cred că din când în când merită să încercăm exercitiul ăsta de întoarcere la inocenţa copilăriei...şi că merită să nu uităm niciodată că am fost toţi copii şi mai ales că încă putem fi .Nu sunt sigur unde am auzit vorba asta, dar suna cam asa: “Un adult adevărat este acela care nu îşi pierde niciodată inima de copil”.
